IN A BID to prevent a repeat of the damage wrought by the Praek Sa garbage-dump fire in Samut Prakan last month, Khon Kaen City Hall has placed two fire engines on a round-the-clock watch at the city's main dump and banned smoking near its 800,000 tonnes of garbage.

Malaysia has installed about 35 depots nationwide that has biodiesel facilities for blending 5 per cent of palm methyl ester, extracted from palm oil and diesel. The Malaysian Palm OIl Board hopes for another 26 depots for the blend to be fully available all over the country.

Biomass energy consumption in the United States grew more than 60% from 2002 to 2013. This growth is almost entirely due to increased consumption of biomass to produce biofuels, mainly ethanol but also a smaller amount of biodiesel and other biomass-based diesel fuels.
