WATER PRESSURE

In Indonesia people struggle for water during dry seasons, while bracing for floods when it start to rain. As people get richer, they use more water. The big drivers are the increased desire for enhanced agriculture, manufactured goods and electricity. Crops, coal mining, power stations and factories all need lots of water to function.

Using purposely designed pumps and valves, and better quality pipes, can go a long way towards saving a staggering amount of water (up to 60% of it), provide clean drinking water (13% of the population still doesn’t have access to it) and at the same time help recycle and filter wastewater. Changing practices is vital, and will spur business alike. Government’s plans to build new dams and expand access to clean water resources, will improve social and economic outcomes.

Currently 49 dam construction projects are considered national strategic projects by the Indonesian government. All these 49 projects are targeted to be completed by 2019. Of those, 16 projects have already been tendered in 2014 and are currently being constructed.

The Global Industrial Valves Market

The global industrial valves market accounted for $65 billion in 2015 and is expected to reach $88.4 billion by 2021, showing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of around 5.3% between 2016 and 2021 (Source: Zion Research).

In Indonesia, with a population of 255 million, rising urbanization has led the industrial valve market to grow rapidly for the past few years. The major factors expected to further favor growth include rising demand for energy, expanding infrastructure and manufacturing, water and wastewater systems, chemical and process industries, with food and pharma taking the lead.

In particular, ball valves accounted 20% of revenue share of the overall market in 2015. Ball valves are quarter-turn, straight-through valves used in situations where tight shutoff is required. Use of gate valves in application sector such as pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, automotive, and marine is expected to experience significant growth in the forecast period.

Pump and Valves in the Food Industry in Indonesia

Ir. Adhi S. Lukman, Chairman of Indonesia F&B Association, opening UBM’s Food Ingredients Asia: “With a turnover of about IDR 1.200 trillion (USD 87.6 billion) in 2015, the Indonesian food and beverage industry plays a key role in the country’s economic growth and has proven to be very resilient during economic downturns. It contributed about 31% of non-oil GDP and grew in value by about 7.5% year on year. In 2014, the F&B sector had almost 1.2 million manufacturing establishments”. Food ingredients is the biggest show of its kind in South East Asia.

Pump and valves used in the F&B industry must conform to the highest standards of hygiene. These fundamental parts not only need to ensure sterile processes but also satisfy stringent requirements in terms of reliability and profitability.

The F&B industry is one of the key sectors that will visit Pumps and Valves Indonesia. Others include construction, energy, maritime, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, all industries where UBM is a leader in related events.

Indonesian Pump and Valves industry beyond mining

The Indonesian market for pumps, compressors, taps and valves saw a 8% drop in value in 2014 due mostly to lower investments into mining machinery, oil and gas. By contrast, Indonesia’s strong construction industry and the priority investment list set by the government have pushed sales up again. Industry of pumps, compressors, taps and valves are to see 11.1% CAGR over 2014-2020  (Source: Euromonitor).

The government’s 2015 masterplan on national industrial estate development singled out food, pharma, energy, cosmetics, medical devices, shoes, textiles, leather, transportation and electronics as the sectors to focus on and develop further.

Therefore, accelerating fixed investment spending, process manufacturing activity and primary energy consumption growth will support gains in the worldwide pump market.

Companies like Kishor, KBS, Blagdon, Sulzer, Ebara, Grundfos, Flowserve and Wilo to name a few, with decades of experience and expertise, can successfully leverage the momentum, provide solutions and execute projects in all these key sectors.

The growing popularity of application-specific pumps and a favorable waterworks construction outlook is also spurring demand for pumps classified in the other pumps segment, particularly specialty and turbine pumps. Sales of positive displacement pumps are bolstered by advances in process manufacturing activity, while the centrifugal pump segment benefits from rising demand for more versatile, low-maintenance pump models.
